Valentines simple cake gift idea

This is a simple cake idea for you to make for that someone special or you could make it for yourself & eat the whole lot, why not xx

I used a simple victoria sponge recipe with sugar icing,  cut out rolled icing hearts & a sprinkle of chocolate because i can.

Mushroom picture revamped from a old picture frame

Revamp a old picture frame into a fairytale mushroom picture

All you will need is a old picture frame, white paint, cream paper, sandpaper, scissors & some cream, red & green material scraps or you could just use sheet felt. There is no sowing or glue required as the glass holds everything in place. 

Remove glass & backing to the frame then sand down & paint

I only gave it a wash of white paint because i like the worn vintage look

Get your cream paper & cut it to fit the frame, this is your backdrop. Cut-out some simple but different sized mushrooms & a little grass then position onto the backdrop of card. If you are happy with the layout place the glass on top this will hold everything into place.

Keep the glass in contact with the picture as you put the frame back together & there you have it a cute little forest mushroom pic xx

Fairy Mushroom cake kids birthday decoration idea

Great for kids birthday party's or perfect for a teddy bears picnic in the woods.

To make this cake i used my basic cake mix that never fails. 100g of butter, self-raising flour & sugar. 2 eggs, a splash of milk & teaspoon of baking powder. Just how my mum used to make. I added half a chopped apple & a pinch of cinermon because i like it. I used two baking bowls. The first was for the mushroom stem & the other a oval shape for the mushroom head. I use baking paper so it doesn't stick. Remember the stem will take less time to bake because its a lot smaller.

Once your cake has baked & cooled you can position it into the mushroom shape

Next step is to ice it. I used ready to roll icing so you just need a rolling pin & icing sugar so it doesn't stick. I used chocolate spread over the cake or you can use jam, this is so your icing sticks to the cake & adds to the yummy flavour  .You only need a thin layer. Now you are ready to add the details so you will need red food colouring & a paint brush.

Paint the whole top section of the cake red, add a few icing circles to the mushroom head & strips of icing to the mushroom neck. I also cut some green card to make grass sides. I just inserted them into the cake for decoration.

I added a little fairy door which was just painted on with chocolate spread & a red sweet door knob. I used the same red sweets around the mushroom head as a trim & a few green ones near the door. Add some fresh strawberrys for decoration, they really make the red colours from the cake pop. ( the little sweets i used can be found in most supermarkets in the cake decorating section called ''Blackwood Lane rainbow chic chips"

This is a fun & easy cake to make & its one that the kids can help you decorate too. Its not the most detailed cake but looks the part. You can stick candles in the hollow of the eyes or you could fill them with even more treats, yum yum.

I used icing sugar mixed with water & orange food colouring (or yellow & red to make orange) for the face. I brought white icing that you can just roll or mould into whatever shape you want for the other face details. They were painted with food colouring at the end so you will need black & green.

The teeth i left white & i added some stitches to the face with black food colouring & a paint brush, just to make it look a bit more scary.

The basic cake mixture i always go with is the same amount of ingredient with everything. I used 100g of butter so thats 100g of self raising flour & 100g of sugar. My mum always used to make cakes like this & iv always enjoyed eating them. I add 2 eggs, raisons(hand full), apple cut into small chunks(hand full), teaspoon of baking powder, teaspoon of cinnamon & dash of milk

I used two ends of a apple & section of apple in the cake mixture to give it the hollowed out effect, just remove the apple segments after its baked to leave the holes. Looks a bit similar to myself when using a face mask.

It would of looked even better with some jelly worms coming out of its mouth

Remember it doesn't have to look perfect. Thats the great thing about halloween the more hideously ugly, the better.

How To Make Miniature Easter Bunny Rabbits

These very small little Rabbits are a bit fiddly but cute & inexpensive to make. They make great gifts for easter too.

They are made from felt fabric. Felt has a soft furry texture which adds to these cute bunnies. To make them cut a shape  of a bunnies body out of the felt fabric. Do this twice, one for the front & one for the back of the bunny. Sow them together using a little stuffing then stitch the eyes & mouth. Don't forget the little cotton tails.

How to make a recycled rag rug or bath matt

Recycled Rag Rug/bath matt

I needed a new bath matt & didn't see any that i liked in the shops so i thought i will make my own. 

All you need to make this matt or rug is simply loads of scraps of fabric. I used matching complimentary colours but you can make a multi colour matt if you want. You don't need any crochet skills because this matt/rug was made simply by weaving & tying the fabric together. All it takes is your time which i found very therapeutic, tying & weaving the fabric together.  

I started off by cutting lots of strips of fabric, all the same length. The length is up to you. The longer the length the bigger the matt/rug will end up. I then knotted the middle so i had a centre to tie everything off. I used platted strips  of fabric & weaved them around the centre.

Then i added more strips by just tying them to the centre. Again i added to the centre weaving in & out the longer strands of fabric.

Keep on weaving, knotting & tying fabric

Keep on adding & it will begin to look more full. Try to space the different colours out.

At this point i desided i wanted it a little bigger so i just added some more strands & weaved/knotted some more

Nearly finished, i tryed it out for size. Once you are happy with the size start to weave & fill any gaps in the rug. If you want to you could add a base by cutting a circle of fabric & sowing it underneath.

finished matt. I used a needle & thread to just sow round the edge of the rug to neaten the edge or you could add tassels.
